The former town hall stands in the main square of Fontanelice, alongside the gateway to the old Castle that stood here in the Middle Ages. By the time of the Renaissance, the remains of this fortress had already been incorporated into the new public building.
Over the years the complex has grown considerably. For example, it now includes a colonnaded façade, accessible via the steps that follow the natural slope of the square. This portico features seven lowered pointed arches; these have a plaster finish while the load-bearing masonry is natural stone. The upper part of the façade, instead, has a sequence of simple rectangular openings. At its centre lies a plastered niche with a statue of the Madonna. Dominating the top of the building is the huge square-based, plaster-finished Clock Tower, with mullioned windows on all sides of the upper section.
