Il Castellaccio: the ancient Alidosi castle

On the hill facing the west side of Castel del Rio, stands what is left of Castellaccio, the first residence of the Alidosi family built in the early 1200s.

Here, the Alidosi lived until the beginning of 1500s, when they started building their final home, Palazzo Alidosi, in Castel del Rio town center.

The ruins are very evocative, even though they are now part of a more modern beautiful country house. It is visitable upon request. From there, the view over Santerno river valley is truly breathtaking.
