Castel Guelfo’s old centre retains its late medieval appearance and original rectangular layout, of considerable historical and artistic interest.
The triangular 18th century piazza, known as the Borgo, acts as the gateway to the historic town centre, which is enclosed by walls and towers.
Now known as Piazzale Dante Alighieri, the uniquely designed Borgo, which lies just outside the main perimeter, was the work of Bolognese architect Luigi Casoli: the base of the triangle faces the castle and the two sides are lined by long porticoes, partially obscured by the trees planted in the middle of the piazzale.
