The Vena del Gesso Romagnola Regional Park (the "Chalk Vein of Romagna" park) is a wide and protected area that extends from Brisighella, in the province of Ravenna, to Borgo Tossignano, thus embracing Casalfiumanese and Fontanelice municipalities.
The unique chalky outcrop, known as the Vena del Gesso Romagnola - consisting of a type of gypsum that sparkles in sunlight - runs through its hills.
The landscape of the park includes also the calanchi: steep gullies and ridges carved out of the clayey soil by water erosion. Of ever-changing shape, they form high, vegetation-free walls, creating canyon-like ‘badlands’. When the broom flowers, the barren landscape turns an evocative bright yellow.
Two are the visitors' centres: in Borgo Tossignano "Casa del Fiume" and in Brisighella "Ca' Carnè".
