Vienna, 1823. Antonio Salieri was a pious and generous man, an esteemed and famous musician, but now old, forgotten and close to death, he recounts the story of his tragic relationship with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Ama-deus, he who loves God and is loved by God – which ended with the death of the young, reckless and irreverent, albeit brilliant composer thirty years earlier. The legend, born of gossip, has it that Salieri poisoned Mozart out of envy. Salieri, however, mediocre in life as well as in wickedness, did not poison Mozart; his malice never reached that point. But he will do anything to make everyone believe it, so that his name can be linked forever to that of the Salzburg composer and so that this crime he did not commit will grant him immortality.
